Alabama Received a Boost in Mercedes Production

In early 2010, Daimler-Benz moved its production of the Mercedes C-class vehicles to a plant near Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  The US dollar was very weak at the time, compared to the Euro and there aren’t many unionized work forces in the South.  These factors make for Alabama being a low-cost production location compared to that of Germany.  Saving a dollar here and there really makes a big difference, especially in this economy.

It does seem a bit odd to think of Mercedes and Alabama having any correlation with each other, but this is now the case.  Tuscaloosa is known for the likes of Bear Bryant and Role Tide fans, not luxury automobiles.  The new opportunity for Alabama workers is something that is a plus for the southern state and this new luxury car business is placed there because of how poor the area is.  The company will save money with low taxation and the workers won’t demand high pay rates.  It’s a win-win for Daimler-Benz.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama is nestled right off Interstate 20 and is very close to Atlanta’s auto shipping connection.  The location is oddly convenient for car transporter and is centrally located for easy access to the Interstate 65 corridor up to the Chicago area nearby in Birmingham, Alabama.

With the excess of vehicles being produced in the US, more cars will be transported throughout the nation and give the country better stability within the trade sectors among the rest of the world.  Car shipping companies serving the East Coast ports where the previous German car imports would be brought in might have been a bit disgruntled, but the auto transport companies within the states sure seem to be singing a different tune.

Choosing a Cheap Car Mover Might Cost You!

When calling around to all of the different car transport companies, customers will get high prices and really low prices.  Problem is more so with the cheap prices.  Those companies might end up costing more in the long run, whether it is them not being able to move the vehicle (time is money) or they might come back to the customer and tell them that is going to cost more than the originally stated price.  Some questions that might arise are: “Will your car arrive at its destination in the same condition it was in when it left its origin?” or “Will it even arrive in a timely manner?”   Make sure to do research on all car shipping companies at hand to ensure the vehicles safety.  Do not just choose an auto transporter because of that low price.

Make sure to ask many questions regarding the vehicle transport process and how that company does business.  Below are a few important questions to ask:
  • How much will it cost to move a car from point A to point B?
  • What is the time frame for pickup and delivery?
  • Is the company licensed, bonded and insured?
  • Do they comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s safety standards?
  • What kind of equipment is used to load and unload vehicles?
  • How long has the company been in business?
  • How will the company handle any issues that might arise during transport?
  • Was this company used by a friend or family member before that can vouch for its service?
A quality car transporter will be willing to answer any and all questions regarding the transport process.  Make sure it’s not just a bunch of jargon they are throwing out just to get off the phone.

Transporting Overseas?

When we think of transportation, we generally think of the trucks that run back and forth on the highways.  There are actually multiple ways to get things from point A to point B: trucks, boats, rail, and air.  It is quite important to understand all of the criteria that go into transferring overseas.  Once you have contracted with the household goods moving company, the next step would be to start car shipping process.
First, you will need to do your research and locate an auto transport company to handle all of the logistics of shipping your vehicle.  It is best to have only about a ¼ of a tank of gas before loading onto the ocean carrier and a fairly clean vehicle.  This is for your benefit because when you and the driver walk around to inspect the vehicle, any scratches or markings can be documented.  Once everything is booked and ready for transport, make sure that you retain your booking number from the port that the vehicle will be shipped out of.

Next, be sure that all documentation is perfect and is at the port ahead of time before the car arrives.  The auto carrier should be able to communicate with the port authorities so that they can make sure that that paperwork you submitted is correct.  Once the vehicle is in route to the port, make sure to collect your copy of the B.O.L. from the car transporter and the ocean carrier.  A B.O.L. is the sheet that is filled out before and after the vehicle is transported that denotes any damages from the transport.

If you follow these few steps and use a quality auto transport broker, your vehicle transport will be a piece of cake.

International Car Theft Export Ring Busted

There has been a large number of exporting going on in the United States as of lately and much has to do with the inflated vehicle prices around the world.  It is cheaper to purchase a vehicle in the US and pay all of the import/export fees rather than purchase the vehicle in your own country.  Well, it seems some think that it’s even CHEAPER to just steal the vehicles and throw them on the boat to ship to the buyers, rather than take the proper steps through customs.  Not so fast, thieves!!  Law enforcement agencies, both federal and state, have announced the breakup of one of the larger car theft export rings.  Several people have been charged with the theft of a multitude of vehicles in the NY and NJ area, and exporting them to Africa from the area’s seaports.
20 federal, state and local agencies announced the arrests of 11 of the 19 persons who are charged with the theft of the several high value automobiles.  The buyers of these vehicles were willing to pay a much higher ticket than what market value suggests, but bad news hits the shores of Africa instead of the boat loads of vehicles.  There are many ill effects of these types of operations, including but not limited to crime, carjackings and robberies.  When something is done illegally, our safety and quality of life diminish along the way.

Our economy, in many ways, is also negatively impacted as well through situations like these.  For example, not only are our citizens deprived of their personal property, but theft patterns in specific areas will result in higher insurance premiums for residents within that area.  Considering that majority of the vehicles are taken by gang members, gangs are thriving in this market.  By cracking down on their sources of income, we in return gain a favorable advantage.

Where's the plan to repair N.Y.'s roads and bridges?

There could be major accidents in New York because the state is spending less money to fix its highways and bridges. This possibility might be seen because of the analysis that was seen in the records of the state Department of Transportation. A plan to fix these bridges needs to be decided by Governor Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers. Car haulers would then be able to maneuver easily through the crowded cities. This would make auto shipping a more efficient means of open vehicle transportation than it already is. A five-year DOT plan that would have spent $26 billion for repairs was rejected by the 2009 Democratic- controlled state Legislature. About 80 percent of that money has been spent, and the state needs $250 billion in order to maintain its transportation and water systems. About $80 billion of that amount is unfunded. Sen. Chuck Schumer thinks that a National Infrastructure Bank to help states fund road and bridge projects should be created. However, the problem is that state and federal governments are financially stretched but if local governments were required to help with maintenance cost it could fix the problem. This is a good time for Cuomo and the state Legislature to come up with a solution to make the bridges and roads of New York stronger.

Highway funding in Maine is more worrisome than its pothole ridden roads

The roads in Maine are so bad that there is now a contest to see which road is the worst. The winners based on photos and stories on collapsed bridges, failed culverts and gaping potholes this is set up by the Maine Better Transportation Association. Vehicle transporters are trying to reroute themselves as to not get into the mess. This might cause a slight delay in pickup or delivery times of clients interested in car shipping. Not only are upset drivers and highway maintenance crews complaining about the roads but so are legislators. Lawmakers and highway maintenance advocates are saying that the state is going to end up facing extreme decrease in transportation funding. Also, there is a decrease in revenue base from fuel tax which is being battered as cars are becoming progressively more proficient and need less fuel. The MBTA President Randy Mace said that improvements to Maine’s highways and bridges will be $230 million less then its current two year finances. The Road Information Program, a transportation organization based in Washington said that at recent funding levels, numerous desired highway projects will not go on, pavement conditions on main roads will get worse and more miles of Maine will be limited to lighter cars. Since there is a loss in fuel tax the money is going to have to be made up somehow which is going to be difficult because highways are getting less money from federal government and state general funds.

SC: Economist tells state lawmakers its good time to raise gas tax

According to an economist at Clemson University, they believe that the unpredictable gas prices could create a chance to raise the state’s fuel tax. The possibility of increasing the gas tax, during this time of “opportunities” facing lawmakers for tax reform was brought up by Holly Ulbrich, an economist and senior scholar with Clemson’s Strom Thurmond Institute. She believes that the gas tax is among a small group of taxes that is not indexed to inflation. Also, she has argued that even if it were coming from tax, people wouldn’t notice. Rep. Tommy Stringer, a Greenville Republican chairing the committee, disagrees and thinks that they would notice. He also believes that you can always tell where we are in the economy based on gas prices; if the gas prices rise you can than tell we are in a recession and by raising taxes on transportation at this point wouldn’t be good. Auto carriers would then have to raise vehicle shipping rates in order to compensate them for the increase in fuel prices. Robert St. Onge, the transportation secretary, thinks that agency leaders are going to have to choose between cutting expenses for a poorly maintained road system or find additional revenue.

I-85 toll project to add to traffic jams in regular lanes

On I-85 in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, a new toll system will be opening next week making the drive for solo drivers a quick one. However, for other drivers next to the toll system they won’t have as pleasant of a ride because there will be an increase in traffic due to the project. A study has shown that the regular lanes will have an extra ninety cars per lane but the study also said that most drivers won’t even notice a difference. This will cause a delay in auto transport and the shipment of vehicles within the state. The State Road and Tollway Authority expect the cost of the toll to be about $4.8 million but after the first year it is expected to bring in $3.9 million in toll revenue. The toll is going to range from 10 cents to 90 cents per mile depending on congestion. However, drivers going round trip can expect to pay over twenty- five dollars. Many people, including Tim Lomax, believe that even though this might create a slow down to the main lane drivers, it will only cause a delay that is couple minutes longer but it won’t create a noticeable delay. N-Motion Auto Transport is aware of this situation and will continue to monitor current news in order to keep car shipping as efficient and timely as possible.

3,000 state workers reopened N.J. roadways

On Sunday four state agencies got together and cleaned up New Jersey’s roadways so it could be reopened. Work crews from the State Department of Transportation are having to work all day to clean up the obstacles in the road that were caused from high winds and rain. DOT, NJTRANSIT, the Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority have sent about 3,000 workers to clean up the road ways and form detours from floodwaters. Because the storm damage was so bad people are being asked to stay off the roadways so work crews will be able to clean up faster. Hundreds of floods conditions occurred because of the state average rainfall of seven inches. This was mainly along the flood prone rivers such as the Raritan, Rockaway, Saddle and Passaic. Over 300 roadway complaints of debris and flooding have been reported to DOT and the people are being asked to visit www.511nj.org. www.511nj.org is a website designed to give up to date information on the roadways and it also provides a map of areas that are still flooded or have debris. There is still a major safety issue because the water levels in the rivers have not gone down yet. The southbound lanes on the Garden State Parkway are opened with some detours between exits 98 and 91 and the eastbound lanes on the Atlantic City Expressway will be reopened by Sunday afternoon allowing car haulers to do there job.

Car Transport Drivers Get to Comment

Transport drivers and companies using heavy-duty car carriers to keep customers vehicles on time and budget during the past few miles in the United States of America that would like to tell congress about the transportation requirements of the nation can now do so. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials launched a new social media campaign this week designed to provide you with the ability to let them know what you think. This means that travelers, truckers, commuters, cyclists and transport drivers car shipping to Puerto Rico on the roads and highways of the United States will soon be logging on to let transport experts know what they think needs to be done during the miles ahead.

People and transport drivers that want to have their say should stop by Facebook or YouTube to see what they have set up, and let the transport agencies of the United States tasked with making sure the transportation infrastructure is in good shape know what they think. Anybody driving on the road and highways of the United States of America will certainly want to log on and let these agencies know what they think. This is a chance for the car transporter of America to pass on a good idea they might have concerning this subject and maybe even play a small part in improving and enhancing the transport roads and highways of America as we enter the second decade of the century of the environment in America and the world.

Transport officials indicate that Congress will probably be drafting new legislation this year concerning this subject that will set the transportation policy of the nation and funding levels for years ahead. You might, therefore, want to stop by and have your say about the future transportation needs of the United States, if you have a few good ideas, or would like to see a certain idea implemented. This could be your chance to make a difference during the miles ahead and tell America about some of the ideas and thoughts you have concerning the transportation needs of America during the years ahead.

Keeping Track of Car Shipping Vehicles

Controlling car shipping prices for transport fleets and firms in the United States of America and the world is about making sure you know at all times where transport vehicles are and what they're doing. The location of transport vehicles is updated regularly on a real-time map users can view, and important vehicle and driver information can be viewed quickly to help give users an idea of exactly what's going on at all times. Mentor Fleet also tracks unnecessary idling, excessive speed, and the unauthorized use of a transport vehicles out on the roads and highways of America taking vehicles to destination on time and budget. A fleet management tool that could be perfect for helping the car transporter and transport firms in the business of delivering customers cars in an efficient, reliable, and cost-effective manner.
