Diesel Dips 4.2cents, hitting $4.088 & Gasoline Declines for Second Straight Week

Looking to be a positive overall outcome, retail diesel fuel prices have dipped for the second straight week from $4.13 per gallon to $4.088. The US Energy Information Administration expects the diesel prices to continue to decline for the next two years, which studies have shown that this will reduce truck fleets annual fuel costs by as much as $5,700 per rig.  This is great news for car carriers and their drivers because it seems that the cost of everything else in steadily increasing, other than their pay checks.

According to the EIA, the 4.2-cent dip in diesel prices last week was less than fuel costs were back in 2012 at this same time.  To ice the cake, prices were actually increasing at this time last year from $4.123 a gallon and up.

US Oil Production Increases, Paving Way to
Lower Fuel Costs
Once gas prices hit $4.051 in February of 2012, prices didn't drop below the $4 mark until the middle of May 2012.  Mid-March of 2013 was the first time since November of 2012 that diesel prices have been cheaper than the prior year.

Not only did diesel prices drop but gasoline prices did as well.  Last week’s fuel prices were $3.759 and have since dropped this week to $3.71 per gallon, much less than last year’s prices at the comparable time.  Car shipping customers and other customers alike will also enjoy the splendors of lowed fuel prices.

Phil Flynn, an analyst of the Price Futures Group in Chicago, states that steady oil markets are putting less pressure on diesel prices at the same time winter demand is easing up on crude oil used in both diesel and heating oil.

US Fuel Prices Finally Dropping in 2013
Crude oil closed out on March 14 at $93.03 whereas one year ago it was at a staggering $106.71.  The steady production of oil in the U.S. is making natural gas a quality option in the auto transportation industry being that both factors are beginning to affect diesel costs.

In the EIA’s short-term oil price report that was released on March 12, retail costs of diesel is anticipated to drop to $3.90 in 2013 from the previous $3.97 in 2012 and will drop even more to $3.80 in 2014.  “U.S. crude oil production exceeded an average level of 7 million barrels per day in November and December 2012, the highest volume since December 1992,” the EIA report said.

It’s a recurring search for new ways and technologies to decrease fuel consumption and increase gas mileage, but after the ten year long search it is finally paying off.

Timing of Car Transport

One of the most frustrating elements of vehicle shipping for some would be transit time. Transit time is always an estimate and cannot ever be guaranteed. Anyone that guarantees a specific pick time will more then likely use terminals, which is not a service you want. Terminals are basically huge lots where cars are stored and wait till a car carrier is hired to transport it. Once vehicles are taken to terminals the chances of damage to the vehicle is greatly increased.

Here is a good view of transit times once your vehicle is booked with an auto transport company. For cross country transports the amount of time needed for transport will be b 10-12 days, for mid-America the time needed will be between 5-7 days, and for instate transports the time needed will be between 1-3 days. These times may very depending on the state to state. This is because some states have more carriers traveling through them compared to some others. Keep this information handy next time you want to transport you vehicle.

Auto Transport Pickup Times from Driver to Customer

Once your vehicle is scheduled for the vehicle shipping process, a truck driver will be assigned the load by your auto transport companies.  The dispatcher will then relay your information to the driver so that they can then give you a call to set up a 1-2 hour time frame for pickup and delivery.  Sometimes, hours or even a day elapses without hearing from the driver.  Quite often they are driving so they don’t like to talk on their phones while in route, but not to worry; your vehicle is usually one of 8 on his entire load.  He also has to coordinate with the other vehicle owners as well for proper timing.  If someone or multiple customers don’t answer their phones while at their designated pickup location, he has no choice but to wait to hear back.  The schedule might then be altered by this delay, so in order to not mess up other customers time schedules, he must first make sure that he sets a reasonable time frame for everyone on the load.  Communication is key in almost every industry, but for car shipping, there is nothing more important.  Make sure to choose a reputable transport broker in order to get quality service and a good experience.  A good car shipping companies will make sure that you are in the know about everything throughout the duration of the transport process.

FMCSA Points out CSA’s Good Points

Auto shipping truckers eager to learn about CSA’s bad points

Oct 16, 2012 – American Trucking Association members have been making noise lately about the need for the FMCSA to provide truckers car shipping with more information concerning the possible negative aspects of the new CSA program.

The ATA recently released a paper showing how the FMCSA has pointed out the benefits of the new CSA program, but would like more information on the possible problems they could meet on the road ahead.

The association believes we should be trying to determine the inherent weaknesses of the new CSA program, so that they can begin making much needed improvements and changes in order to help truckers’ vehicle shipping make their lives and jobs easier.

The paper released by the ATA indicated that the carrier scores in three of the seven CSA categories don’t seem to identify the future accident risks for each driver. They also pointed out that it’s wrong to be making conclusions on the accident risk for each auto shipping driver, using the amount of data currently available for each driver.

The FMCSA hasn’t provided much in the way of comment on the paper released by the ATA, but we can certainly expect the association to seriously take a look at the points they have made. The question at this point is whether truckers will see a more transparent and clearer picture of the road ahead for the trucking industry?

Are You Car Shipping Across the Canadian Border?

Starting November 1st  Car Transports Entering Canada Must Submit an eManifest

Ontario, Canada – The paperwork required for truckers vehicle shipping across the border between America and Canada will increase starting November 1st, 2012. Starting on this date, all truckers crossing the border need to submit an eManifest to Canadian border services, (CBSA) at least one hour before arriving at the border.

The eManifest is designed to help decrease the time it will take you to cross the border by providing the information border officers need to decide whether to let you across the border, quicker than normally possible under the old system.

The CBSA believes the new program will make your job easier and reduce the time you spend waiting at the border. We’ll have to see just how effective it’s, once things get rolling.

If you transport cars for a living and haven’t registered for the new eManifest system, you better start looking into getting signed up. The CBSA currently has around 20,000 carriers registered in their database, but only about 2,000 signed up for the new ACI Manifest program. The deadline for carriers to sign up is only around three weeks away and over 18,000 carriers still need to contact the CBSA to sign up.

Below we list the things truckers providing car shipping services across the border between Canada and America need to know about the eManifest program.

· You can submit your eManifest up to 30 days ahead of your arrival time at the border, provided the information you need to submit is available. Contact the CBSA concerning the exact information you’re required to submit on an eManifest.

· During the first six months of the new ACI Manifest program the CBSA won’t be applying any monetary penalties to carriers found to be in non-compliance. You could miss out on opportunities like the Partners in Protection and Customs Self-Assessment programs, though, if you haven’t signed up by the deadline.

· If you still use a 77YY temporary carrier code, after November 1st the CBSA will no longer accept the old 77YY temporary carrier code you’re using. You should probably contact the CBSA to talk to somebody about getting a valid carrier code.

· It’s about to become law for all carriers crossing the Canadian and American border to be signed up for the new ACI eManifest program. You can sign up for the program on the official web portal at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/manif/portal-portal-eng.html and even connect your firm directly to the CBSA at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/eservices/sp-fs/08-eng.html. You can also use a third party service provider to get you set up and ready using http://www.cbsa.asfc.gc.ca/eservices/sp-fs/07-eng.html.

· The CBSA isn’t using the RFID transponder technology currently in use in the United States, which means one of control numbers on your paperwork will need to be barcoded. If you ‘re using a PARS number it will need to be barcoded and write the trip number (CRN-Conveyance Reference Number) at the top of the paperwork you hand to the appropriate officer.

· The CBSA also recommends carriers sign up for the Release Notification System program, which will send the transaction number to the carrier electronically upon release of the cargo by the customs broker. This program is designed to reduce the number of times carriers need to call the customs broker to see if the cargo has been released.

· Carriers crossing the border between Canada and the United States with empty trucks will still need to supply an eManifest to officials. The only exceptions to this rule are Bobtail tractors and drivers currently part of the FAST (Free and Secure Trade) program.

· CSA carriers that provide auto shipping services are required to submit an ACI eManifest and must send their TCP (Trade Chain Partner) information electronically, rather than using email. This information will include all owner-operators and warehouses you use, which all CSA carriers are required to submit.

Connecticut Car Haulers

Truck drivers and car shipping companies were asked by the state of Connecticut to participate in a study on the use of corrosive de-icing products on the roads to keep them from freezing over.  These items are used quite frequently when conditions call for such a product and are very important in the auto transport industry.  The Connecticut lawmakers heard testimonies from the study to get a better idea of the thoughts from drivers and companies.  The Motor Transport Association of Connecticut believed it to be a good idea that the commissioner of the Department of Transportation started the study of the effects of the corrosive mixture of liquid calcium chloride and salt that was first used on the vehicle shipping roads and highways of Connecticut during the ‘06/’07 winter months.

Close sources to truck drivers that asked for the study indicated that a wide range of drivers planned on showing up for a public meeting on the affair at hand with truck parts that had been damaged from the corrosive materials.  They wanted people to see firsthand how these products were causing heavy-duty car transport truck failures and increasing truck repair bills.

Connecticut was one of the last states in the nation to switch over from the sand/salt mix to a salt/chemical mixture, according to the Department of Transportation.  The agency is pleased with the results and has had few complaints about the newly converted material.

Moving off to college is a big step in everyone's lives, including mom and dads. There is enough stress in the planning and packing process, so why add to it?  Don't take any chances by having that student drive their vehicle across country and/or worry about how they will get around.

Moving Inoperative Vehicles Just Got Easier!

The world over, there are people that continue to have that itch to fix up old clunkers.  Just to see the before and after is what drives them to work endless hours on that old ’69 Camaro.  The problem has never been the effort put into fixing the vehicles; it has been trying to get that vehicle moved out of the barn in the back of the property over to the avid mechanic willing to put in the work.

With N-Motion Auto Transport’s new inoperative vehicle transport program, customers can be sure that the vehicle will arrive to its new home in a safe and timely fashion.  There is far more of a challenge in moving these vehicles rather than the average operable cars.  If the vehicle is partially mobile, it can be rolled on and off the trailer, but immobile cars create a different challenge.  In most instances, forklifts and winches will need to be utilized for loading and unloading.

N-Motion Auto Transport has an active inoperable vehicle transport program, which makes things easy for all of the folks that are rummaging through junk yards to get used parts and buy inoperative cars.  However, not all tow trucks or wreckers have the necessary equipment and/or experience in moving inoperative vehicles.

Make sure to find a good shipper like N-Motion Auto Transport!

Let N-Motion Auto Transport show you the quality of service they offer and help you take care of all of your vehicle shipping needs.

Know the Facts about Auto Transport

There are several things that a consumer needs to take in consideration about vehicle shipping to anywhere in the nation or even internationally. Make sure that you do plenty of research on the companies that you might have in mind for your auto transport service. There are a lot of shady companies in this industry and we want to make sure that the consumers are getting all of the facts. Many companies lie about a wide array of things in order for you to book your load with them. These “lies” consist of altered time frames, far lower prices than what the load should be in order for it to get picked up in a timely manner (and then once you put down your deposit, they increase the price to what it should be or even higher), and whether they are just a Broker or a Carrier/Broker. Brokers are not asset based, so they do not have their own trucks but have access to several carriers around the nation. Good brokers, like N-Motion Auto Transport, do an extensive screening process and background check on each carrier before the job is contracted out. Broker/Carriers are asset based and have their own rigs, but often broker more than utilize their own trucks. To find out what category these companies fall under, check out SaferSys for further information.

For all of your car shipping or enclosed transport needs, call N-Motion Auto Transport today for a FREE QUOTE!

SC: Economist tells state lawmakers its good time to raise gas tax

According to an economist at Clemson University, they believe that the unpredictable gas prices could create a chance to raise the state’s fuel tax. The possibility of increasing the gas tax, during this time of “opportunities” facing lawmakers for tax reform was brought up by Holly Ulbrich, an economist and senior scholar with Clemson’s Strom Thurmond Institute. She believes that the gas tax is among a small group of taxes that is not indexed to inflation. Also, she has argued that even if it were coming from tax, people wouldn’t notice. Rep. Tommy Stringer, a Greenville Republican chairing the committee, disagrees and thinks that they would notice. He also believes that you can always tell where we are in the economy based on gas prices; if the gas prices rise you can than tell we are in a recession and by raising taxes on transportation at this point wouldn’t be good. Auto carriers would then have to raise vehicle shipping rates in order to compensate them for the increase in fuel prices. Robert St. Onge, the transportation secretary, thinks that agency leaders are going to have to choose between cutting expenses for a poorly maintained road system or find additional revenue.

Auto insurance changes debated in Michigan

The only state in the United States that authorizes unlimited medical benefit treatment for people critically injured in car accidents is Michigan. Under proposals, this would vary because it allows motorists to have a less expensive insurance in exchange for limited personal injury protection coverage. Those who support the change, as well as the auto insurance agencies, believe that it will allow motorists to get rid of auto insurance that is more expensive and that don’t really want. The insurers want help with there system because it is becoming more and more expensive which is hurting there finances. Sen. Joe Hune believes that because the cost of the system is so high it is going to become weak and won’t be able to maintain. People in the proposed legislation believe that the state's no-fault auto insurance system might threaten the financial stability because motorists with less coverage will end up getting in financial trouble if they get in a serious car accident. Pete Kuhnmuench, the executive director of the Insurance Institute of Michigan thinks that the consumers in Michigan shouldn’t focus on an insurance system that is just a one quick fix for everything.
